How To Clean A Browning .22 Lever Action Rifle

  1. I spoke to Browning in Arnold, MO today. I told them that after removing the Take-Down Screw and opening the Lever, I can't separate the Stock and Action from the Receiver on my Grade 1 BL-22 to requite information technology a thorough cleaning. Immediately the Service Technician told me non to take the rifle apart for any reason. He stated I should only clean the bore, and so spray an aerosol cleaner internally, make clean with a brush, perhaps another spray, and then wipe the exterior with a lite gun oil and that's all that's needed. Basically, as the maintenance is described in the possessor'south manual.

Seems like a lot of dirt would be left backside. Is that the way the residual of you BL-22 owners maintain your rifles?

  2. interesting..............i'll be watching this one for replys
  3. I rarely make clean my 22lr rifles.
Afterwards cleaning I do utilize compressed air to rid of any loose debris left behind
  4. a little more detail on your cleaning procedure would be helpful

    thanks!

  5. Get-go off I think more than barrels are ruined past poor cleaning techniques than from non being cleaned.
A quality cleaning rod is money well spent and must become from breech to muzzle
Another tip is I accept become fond of the Remington squeegee!
Some other thing....gonna get skinned on this one.....anal cleaning / barrel break in is coin and time wasted unless you have a serious benchrest rifle
Just some of my random thoughts

  6. ok.........you're gonna have to help me out hither. what the h*ll is "anal cleaning / barrel break in"???
  7. Some guys follow a shoot so clean procedure that they believe will make any butt Into a benchrest contender. Make clean barrel with 21 strokes, shoot 1 shot , repeat for eight times then iii shots, 17 passes with cleaning rod... ect
Many have a majic formula of cleaning and shots, kind of like making the sign of the cross before stepping into the batters box

The bulk of the time, they say that to comprehend their barrel. The average joe has no clue how to feild strip a gun. so they youtube it and, boom, they are a pro later watching information technology. So that'southward why they say don't take stuff apart.....
  9. Browning says you should take your muddy gun to a gun smith to have it cleaned, I'grand non paying a smith $fifty bucks or and then to practise information technology, when I can do it myself.
Been doing my own cleaning for the last 65 years!
  10. I know that this is an old thread, only in example anyone always runs across it I will requite my two cents on the OP question.

Best way to make clean with spray without disassembly is Pause Cleaner (Non Chlorinated simply. Has to be Non Chlorinated) Attempt to keep it off the stock. Just spray the action innards down and let dry. It volition make clean it as good as new.

If you would like to have the activity appart this is the best video to help you do that.
